What Should a Logo Design Package Include? A Buyer's Checklist

Short answer: every logo package should include original concepts from a real designer, revisions to your chosen design, vector and web-ready files in colour and black and white, and full copyright ownership. Bigger packages add more concepts, faster turnaround and extras such as business cards, stationery or an animated logo.

Logo packages are hard to compare because every provider names and bundles them differently. Strip away the names and they are built from the same parts. Here is what should always be included, what is a genuine extra, and how to tell which package you actually need.

What Every Logo Package Should Include

Original concepts

Two or three distinct design directions, created from scratch for your business. More concepts give you more choice, but the quality and originality of each matters more than the number.

Revisions

Changes to your chosen concept until it is right: colour, lettering, spacing, proportions. Look for unlimited revisions on the chosen concept, or at least a clearly stated number.

A complete set of files

  • Vector files (AI, EPS, SVG or PDF) for signs, vehicles, print and embroidery
  • PNG with a transparent background, for websites and documents
  • JPG for general use
  • Colour, black and white versions, so the logo works on any background

If you are unsure what each format is for, see logo file formats explained.

Full copyright

Once paid, the logo is yours: you can use it anywhere and register it as a trademark. This should never be a paid upgrade.

Common Extras (and Whether You Need Them)

ExtraWhat it isWorth it if…
More conceptsAdditional design directions to choose fromYou have no clear idea of the style you want
Faster turnaroundFirst concepts in 24–48 hoursYou have a launch, print or signage deadline
Business card designCards designed around your new logoYou meet customers in person
Stationery setBusiness card, letterhead and envelopeYou send quotes, invoices or letters
Animated logoA short motion version of your logoYou use video, social media or a website intro
Brand guidelinesRules for colours, fonts and logo useSeveral people or suppliers will use your brand
Website designA site designed around your new identityYou don’t have a website yet, or it doesn’t match the new logo

Buying extras together with the logo is usually cheaper than ordering them separately later, and everything matches from day one.

What Should Never Cost Extra

  • Vector source files
  • Copyright ownership
  • Black-and-white and transparent versions of your logo
  • Access to your files after the project ends

If any of these appear as add-ons, the advertised price is not the real price. Our logo cost guide lists other hidden costs to watch for.

Which Package Do You Need?

  • Just need a logo, no rush: an entry package with two or three concepts is enough.
  • Opening soon or printing materials: a package with business cards or full stationery saves a second order.
  • Deadline this week: choose an express package with first concepts in 24 hours.
  • Something specific: look for a custom package where you choose the number of concepts and extras.
